THE HAGUE & SURROUNDING AREA

Water on a flat roof: add context to the photograph.

A photograph of ponding is not a diagnosis. Note when rain stopped, how the water changes and whether leaks appear indoors. Assess falls, outlets and the existing roof build-up together.

Roofing photograph
Illustrative roofing image; not a diagnosis of the photographed roof.

Record when rain stopped and whether the water pattern changes. Include outlets, edges and installations in an overview taken safely. A photograph alone does not measure water depth or establish a defect. Ask what information about falls, drainage and the roof system is needed. Keep the observations with the inspection record and report any new indoor leakage separately.

Record when the image was taken

A photograph during rain is different from one after a prolonged dry period. Note when rain stopped and whether the water area changes. One image alone does not establish water depth, a defect or the roof’s capacity.

Show the surroundings

Include visible outlets, edges, rooflights and installations in a safe overview. Mark the relevant roof section. Do not move ballast or roof components yourself to investigate why water is present.

Ask what else needs assessment

The roofer may need information about falls, drainage and the roof system. Ask what can be established during a normal inspection and what needs further investigation. A photograph cannot fully assess concealed layers or structural capacity.

Record the agreed follow-up

Keep observations with the inspection record and the proposed next step. Report any new indoor leakage separately. Ask why a suggested measure fits the actual findings rather than choosing an intervention from the photograph alone.

Compare observations over time

Use similar views at different times and note weather conditions. Mention where the outlet is if safely visible. Comparable images help describe changes, but do not replace measurements or professional assessment where those are needed.

Distinguish possible measures

Cleaning an outlet, adapting a connection and changing the roof build-up are different assignments. Ask which problem each would address and which checks support it. Agree any investigation into structural or drainage questions separately when needed.
